Report from the Honorary Secretary
Dr Wendy Martin

Hello everyone,

I would first like to thank all our members who took the time to complete the BSG survey in recent weeks – we have had a good response rate that will be invaluable to us – not only can we learn more about the profile of our membership but we will be able to incorporate your ideas and views into our new strategy for BSG. I also wish to thank Professor Sheila Peace, The Open University, for leading the survey. The findings will be published in Generations Review online in the near future - I am sure you will be as interested and engaged as us to look at the data and results.

BSG Bursaries

I am delighted to inform you, that following the high number of applications in 2009 for BSG bursaries, the Executive Committee has agreed to increase the budget available to £4,000, that will enable us to support more students and early career researchers to attend our annual conference at Brunel University in July 2010. This is a great opportunity and I encourage you to look out for the call for applications (see the BSG website and monthly e-mail updates) in early February – with a cut off date of Friday 26th March 2010 for receipt of applications.  The criteria have been reviewed and modified this year by the 2010 Bursary Panel, so please do check the requirements carefully. Please note that bursary applications are also open to retired and / or unwaged BSG members.

We invite you to join us as we develop and implement our new vision and strategy.

Please also keep up-to-date with the exciting developments and check out the enhanced and exciting academic programme for our annual conference at Brunel conference in July 2010 seehttp://www.bsg2010brunel.org.uk/
