Welcome from the President
Welcome to the British Society of Gerontology and its website. Established in 1971, the Society provides a multidisciplinary forum for all those interested in the situations of older people, and in how knowledge about ageing and later life can be enhanced and improved.
These are exciting and challenging times for ageing and for gerontologists. The Society is actively exploring ways in which we can raise our profile and get our messages through to those politicians, civil servants and policy-makers at the centre of power. We are working in partnership with other organisations including the ILC-UK, Age-UK and the British Council on Ageing to advance our aims, and to apply the knowledge gained through research and practice to improving quality of life in old age. We are all ageing and most of us can now expect to live well into old age. Consequently, furthering our understanding and raising awareness of the challenges and opportunities later life may bring, is of concern to each and every one of us.
As President (2010-2012), I welcome your interest in the Society. Please feel free to browse the website and please lend us your support.
