Creative engAGEment: exploring strategies to maximise public involvement in ageing research

The pre-conference theme as the title suggests will be around engagement and impact.

The aim of the ERA pre-BSG annual conference event is to provide the space and opportunity for emerging researchers in ageing to experience meaningful participation and active engagement with their peers. The ERA event is your chance to talk with and listen to your peers, to share ideas and issues, and to practise presenting your research. It is an opportunity for reflection within a supportive environment.

Tuesday 3 July 2018 (13:00 – 16:30) Impact and Engagement: Engaging the public in research Workshop

This workshop event will explore and highlight the diverse ways that early career researchers can engage with the public to ensure their research is both relevant and impactful. A speaker (tbc) with extensive experience in public engagement will facilitate the workshop and present their experiences of how to engage the public, as well as the pitfalls and benefits of public engagement. ERA members will have an opportunity to put this learning into practice by developing an engagement strategy for a new research project, and subsequently pitch this to the group.

Tuesday 3 July 2018 (16:30 – 17:30) Networking event

An opportunity for new and existing ERA members to meet up in an informal environment (a local pub) ahead of the main conference. The Networking Event will be at attendees own expense for food and drink.

Wednesday 4 July 2018 (09:00 – 11:00) Call for Papers: Developing your Elevator Pitch

Presentations will be in the format of ’Rapid fire Presentations’- giving an opportunity for early career researchers to present their research to their peers in a concise and engaging way. Abstracts will be accepted on any theme related to ageing or ageing populations. Presentations will be judged by a panel.

Abstract Submission: If you would like the opportunity to present your research at the ERA conference, you are invited to submit an abstract for presentation of no more than 250 words with sufficient detail to allow the ERA Committee to judge the merit of the submission. Presentations will take place on Wednesday 4 July 09:00 – 11:00. The abstracts can be on any theme related to ageing or ageing populations from any discipline, and should highlight your research.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the ERA Committee Name and affiliation. (name, affiliation, position, contact information)
