Event Type:
Workshop
Date:
24 November 2025 - 28 November 2025
Location:
In person at The Guildhall, London AND Online via Zoom
The Older Researchers in Ageing (ORA) SIG would like to invite you to take part in a workshop to identify and champion ways in which older researchers, who have come to research later in life, can support themselves and be supported by universities, institutions, and funders in their ageing research. The workshop will be run in-person at The Guildhall in London on Monday 24 November, 1-5pm and online, via Zoom, on Friday 28 November, 2-4pm.
What's involved?
The first part of the workshop will focus on the challenges and opportunities (waged and/or unwaged) we face in our work. The second part will focus on what is most important, who we want to influence and how. By the end of the workshop, we will have co-produced a series of points for actionable strategies that will underpin a manifesto advocating for and supporting later life researchers in ageing research. The manifesto will be launched at the BSG 2026 conference in Oxford.
Both workshops will be facilitated by 'careers with research' consultant Ruth Winden. Ruth has run successful career coaching workshops with ERA and has a longstanding commitment to older workers.
How to sign-up
The workshops are funded by a BSG small events grant and are free to register, but places are limited. We welcome any BSG member to join us at one of the workshops, but especially those with lived experience of coming to ageing research later in life. Please email Frances at the address provided, giving a brief reason why you would like to attend and be sure to indicate which workshop you want to register for. Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse or contribute to any travel costs relating to the in-person workshop
