This report will be briefer than usual, as much of the reporting is
contained in the documents presented at the Annual General Meeting held
on 6 September at Sheffield Hallam University.
The annual conference was just superb and I
received such good feedback from delegates which I have passed on to the
organisers in Yorkshire. Although the conference was held at Sheffield
Hallam University, the organisers were based all over the County. Huge
thanks go to Murna Downs from Bradford and Merryn Gott from Sheffield.
Century 21, the administrative side were brilliant and Jill Hitchenor
deserves special mention. The students in their bright orange tee shirts
looked after us extremely well, and together with the engaged and
engaging group of older people who attended, made the conference truly
intergenerational.
The minutes of the BSG AGM held on 7 September at
the University of Wales Bangor were agreed subject to minor corrections
and can be found following this link: 2006 AGM Minutes
At the AGM, I presented a report from the President which can be found following this link: President's AGM report
It was agreed at the AGM, that we should commence
slimming down the size of the Executive Committee by incorporating the
currently co-opted officers elect into voting members of the Executive
Committee thus reducing the number who regularly attend meetings from 12
to 15. This process should take between 4 and 6 years depending upon
individual decisions regarding re-election for a second three year term.
It was agreed at the AGM, that we should pursue the
possibility of engaging a permanent administrator and also that we
should slim down the Executive Committee over the next 4-6 years.
The Working Party reports were tabled at the AGM and can be found following this link: Working Party reports
It has been a good year, and as I said in my
report, the support I have received from the Executive Committee has
been invaluable. I thanked them at the AGM, and it gives me further
pleasure to thank them in GR on-line.
With good wishes as always
Kate
