Aims
The aims of the BSG bursaries policy are:
- To facilitate BSG members to attend BSG conferences;
- To provide a vehicle for BSG members to benefit from financial surpluses derived from previous conferences; and
- To enable students, unwaged, retired and recent postdoctoral BSG members to actively participate in the BSG conference.
Bursaries are awarded by the Bursaries Panel, comprising of two Executive Committee members, the Secretary and two members of the conference committee.
The budget allocated is proposed by the Treasurer in consultation with the Bursaries Panel and agreed by the Executive Committee. The Bursaries Panel apportions the budget as it thinks fit, taking into account:
- The number of applications submitted;
- The total amount of money requested; and
- Minimum number of awards to be made for the conference.
The membership is informed through the BSG website, the BSG e-bulletins the criteria for support and the dates during which bursary applications are accepted. Applicants will receive notification as to whether their application has been accepted in sufficient time for early-bird registration.
