Dr Sue Westwood is currently running a research project on balancing religious freedoms, sexual orientation and gender identity rights in older age care spaces. The project aims to understand in particular how faith-based health and social care staff who object to LGBT+ lives (and, of course, not all do by any means) perceive delivering care to older LGBT+ people, and how older LGBT+ people perceive the delivery of that care.
The aim of this project is to develop a research agenda, informed by health and social care staff (of all religions, genders and sexualities) and older LGBT+ people, their families and friends. This will then inform, in turn, a new research grant application, and research network, which explore these issues in greater depth.
There are three ways to participate in the project:
- By completing an online confidential survey (full details and ethics consents provided). There are two: one survey is for health and social care staff (of all religions, genders and sexualities); and one survey is for older LGBT+ people, their families and friends.
- By participating in an interview, the option to do so being given at the end of each survey.
- By participating in a focus group (choice of dates/times). More details can be found here.
